Baby Clothes

I like to use up my leftover material to make clothes for the little ones. I thought since I have several different knits from when the kids were little I could make leggings and matching tops. Of course, each piece needs a signature of some kind - this one comes with a cute little yo-yo button on the top.

This set comes with a coordinating little toque.

This was made a while ago, and does not have a specific signature piece. I believe I gifted this to a young man born last year.

Christmas Projects

I finally finished the Christmas Chevron quilt. I decided to leave it with only the five rows of prints, and added a coloufull binding to pull it all together.

Finally finished the set of two table mats.

And my set of 10... I had completed tmost of this about a year ago, but just recently added the table runner. I think its my favourite in this set.

Art Show

Tomorrow is the big art show for the Grasby Art Studio. Amy has been a student of Teresa Grasby for just over a year now and has learned so much about painting, and art in general. This time she is putting 23 items into the art show. Rob, Amy and Sam are out there tonight helping load grid wall and art pieces into the trailer and trucks to haul to the Scout Hall for set up. It will be a long night for Teresa and a busy day tomorrow with lots of art, musicians, live demo and hopefully several buyers.

Most of Amy's entries are displayed in the Paintings page. We played around a little with the copiers at Staples, and were able to make a few fairly decent prints from some of her sketches. So Amy is entering several greeting cards made from prints. Whether its the lighting or my own editing, we still need to improve our photography of the original paintings, as the colours seem a little off in the print making process.

It's a toss up, selling prints for less or the originals. Hoping she manages a few sales tomorrow.

Shows and Sales

A while ago, it was posted that the communtiy was looking for a few volunteers to help organize the local Christmas Craft Fair. I thought, since I'm now retired from running the soccer club, surely I have time to help with this community event, so I joined. While I was attending meetings helping drum out the details I thought it would be a great idea if Amy and I rented a table to display our "crafts". Quilts for me and paintings for Amy. And so began a flurry of gathering items and getting them sale worthy for the big day. Last Saturday I loaded the car with quilts, paintings, and my wonderful friend and neighbour - partner in crime, Roberta. We headed the three blocks over to the community centre to set up our display.
You don't realize how much stuff you brought, until you lay it all out. Since you hope to sell a few items, you don't want your table to look too sparse right away. Amy did some demo sketching, and although it did not draw a huge crowd, there were a few people who came around to look at her stuff - and came back again... Most were not in the market for her level of work, but were very encouraging towards her.

At the end of the day, she did sell one sketch and I sold four quilts - one Christmas table set and three baby quilts with coordinating toques.

Linda B's Quilting

I'd like to say, we've had a busy couple of weeks, but then I'm left to wonder, when is it not busy? With a family of five, there always seems to be activity, and almost never a non-busy time. So rather than thinking about that, I will simply let you know about a few of the things we've been up to.

I've been teaching a beginner's quilting class. I call it "Linda B's Quilting". I advertised in the local community newspaper and ended up with three students looking to learn how to quilt. It's interesting, as two out of the three have already done some quilting, but are looking to learn some of the finer techniques. I love it!

The class was set for six weeks with two hour classes each week. Since it was designed as a beginner class I chose a simple pinwheel design, off set by alternating solid blocks. Since we are headed into the Christmas season, I chose a few beautiful seasonal prints, using an embedded print cream fabric as the background. The finished product should measure approxinately 54" x 54" - a nice lap quilt.

Through this experience I met a few great gals from the neighbourhood. Carol is a lot of fun. She loves to laugh and always has a tid bit to share about her grand daughters or her experiences from living in northern Canada. She had never quilted before, but upon retirement started pursuing new hobbies, When the opportunity presented itself to learn to quilt she went out to buy a new machine and signed up. I have loved getting to know Carol and I hope we will remain friends and quilting buddies.

And the finished product!

Freddie has done a little bit of quilting in the past, and offers a lot of encouragement and so much insight. Freddie was hoping to learn some of the more technical parts of quilting, proper techniqes and such. I really hope I was able to help her with this process. She has a great eye for colour choices, and swapped out the cream solid squares for her own choice - bright red!

I think it goes well with the design and cannot wait to see the finished product.

Angie was the only one I had met previous to the class. Angie is a busy mom of young children and still finds time to quilt. She has completed a few quilts as well, and much like Freddie, was looking for some of the more technical skills. Angie has been busy most of our class nights, but has been working away at her own pace, often sending me photos of her progress. I cannot wait to see her finished product as well.
